The sounds that come from the pianos vary. Some players sound great. Others, not so hot.

Dennis Burck writes in the Metro Times that Dan Gilbert's Bedrock Real Estate Services has placed six street pianos around downtown Detroit, including at 611 Woodward, Campus Martius, and each donated piano has been painted by a local artist.

It's Bedrocks second year placing pianos around town.

Program director James Millar tells the Metro Times:

“We didn’t want them to turn into billboards. This is an initiative to help people engage in their environment where otherwise they wouldn’t. These pianos allow people to interact. They play to all the senses.”

The Bedrock website says this:

You never know who will sit down and put on an impromptu show – and that’s the beauty of the six uniquely designed street pianos Bedrock Real Estate Services has placed around downtown Detroit!
