From Late Sunday Night

One girl, 7, was dead, and another girl, 8, was wounded Sunday night after being shot at a home on Detroit's west side during a holiday party, Fox 2 reports. The kids were playing with Christmas toys at the time of the shooting.

The shooting happened a little before 8 p.m. on Steel Street on Detroit's west side, Josh Landon of Fox 2 reports.

Assistant Police Chief Steve Dolunt tells Fox 2 that police have identified a person of interest, Sharonda Benson, 23.

Dolunt told the station that a father at the home of the shooting had several children from different women.

He said one of the new girlfriends got into an argument with an old girlfriend. It got heated. She left and said she'd be back, Dolunt explained.

A short time later, Dolunt said, someone came back, got out a vehicle and fired four to five shots through a picture window.

Dolunt said the adults were upstairs. The children were playing with their Christmas gifts downstairs.

"This is just blatant stupidity and ignorance," Dolunt said.
