General Motors is gobbling up some land near the Detroit River.

Kirk Pinho of Crain's Detroit Business writes that GM has snapped up three vacant buildings totaling almost 31,000 square feet and a 0.8-acre surface parking lot near the Detroit riverfront east of the Renaissance Center.

The land was sold to GM's  subsidiary Riverfront Holdings Inc.

It's not clear what GM will do with the properties.

The acquisitions, according to Crain's, include:

A 9,600 square-foot building  at 673 Franklin St. between St. Antoine and Rivard streets; a  8,400-square-foot building at 672 Woodbridge St., between St. Antoine and Rivard; and a 12,700 square foot building at 260 Schweizers Place, between Woodbridge and Franklin.
