After all that talk about building a soccer stadium on the unfinished jail site on Gratiot, billionaires Dan Gilbert and Pistons owner Tom Gores have changed their mind.

The two, who are hoping to land a Major League Soccer expansion team, have abandoned the jail site plan and intend to play at Ford Field instead, Bill Shea of Crain's Detroit Business reports.

The abandoned 15-acre jail project site owned by Wayne County is still targeted for redevelopment, just without soccer, Shea reports.

MLS plans to expand to four cities, but has made it clear it prefers to have teams play in soccer stadiums.

As part of the new plan, the Fords could take an ownership stake in the team, Shea reports.
