When Tom Gores and Dan Gilbert recently announced plans to build a $1 billion soccer stadium and mixed used development on the site of the new Wayne County jail, County Executive Warren Evans said not so fast.

Evans said the county, which still has plans to complete the new jail facility, which was halted in mid-construction because of cost overruns, said he wouldn't give up the site if it meant the taxpayers would take a loss on the sale. Still, he didn't totally shut the door.

On Thursday, Arn Tellem, vice chairman of Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores' team, said he is still talking to Wayne County about building the project on the jail site with Dan Gilbert, Robert Snell of Crain's Detroit Business reports.

Tellem spoke during the Pancakes & Politics breakfast at the Detroit Athletic Club.

"We are working together, which is the most important thing," Tellem says in Crain's.  "We are doing an analysis and don't want taxpayers to foot the bill. It's the perfect site. My hope is we'll find a way to make it work."
