Even in regular cafeterias the international company Aramark isn't known for its great food.

So in prison it's not shocking there are some concerns.

Paul Egan of the Detroit Free Press reports that Gov. Rick Snyder is concerned with the recent problems with the quality of food in state prisons is  unacceptable. Aramark  Correctional Services of Philadelphia is the provider.

Snyder's remarks came a day after the Freep reported that about 30 prisoners fell sick at Parnall Correctional Facility in Jackson over the weekend after maggots and fly larvae were found near the serving trays on a meal line there, Eggan writes.

The Freep reports that there have been problems since Aramark began a three-year contract with the state in December. Some problems include meal shortages and menu substitutions.

He hinted that the company's contract could be at risk.

The Freep reports that Aramark spokeswoman Karen Cutler said Monday there is no proof of a link between the maggots and the ill prisoners. -- Allan Lengel
