Update | Monday, 7:45 a.m.: After continually climbing YouTube numbers all weekend, the Rubber Band's recital fail tape is above 500,000 screenings.
Saturday morning article:
A bad break sometimes takes an unexpected turn.
That's one life lesson vocalist-keyboardist Henry Ayrault and three bandmates take away from their suddenly interrupted cover of Weezer's 1994 debut single, "Undone -- The Sweater Song."

The Rubber Band learns that show biz isn't all glamor.
After members of the Rubber Band played the opening notes at a Grosse Pointe Music Academy spring recital for parents and neighbors, Henry began singing and playing -- which sent his keyboard crashing to the stage.
"I was kind of surprised," he tells Ralphie Aversa of Yahoo News! on Friday afternoon. "But then I kept my composure."
Instructors helped get the electronic instrument upright, spectators applauded and the band played on.
And now a gig that would have been seen only by dozens now had nearly 36,000 YouTube views by late Friday afternoon.
Update, 9:30 a.m. Sunday: National news attention and social media propel the clip above 403,000 viewings in four days.
The boys also earn praise from the original performers:
some are saying this cover of Undone went horribly wrong - we say its the best version we've ever seen! https://t.co/sCWGhJSOkP

Time magazine adds to the national attention by putting the clip on its site late Friday with this headline and comment:
This Video Sums Up Everything Terrible About Middle School
Man, middle school is such a dark time.
The Grosse Pointe Woods academy on Mack Avenue, which posted the video Wednesday, follows up with a blog entry titled "Rock Band Recital Fail." It ends:
Perhaps we should add a master class on how to smash guitars and cause keyboard stands to collapse on stage!
