Frederick Davis and wife and Patricia D. McNeal  face charges of involuntary manslaughter, three counts each of child abuse second degree and one count each of felony firearm. Davis was also charged with felon in possession of a firearm.

At the same time, the prosecutor's office on Wednesday announced charges against great grandparent Joseph Williams, 80, and Andrea L. Drewery, 30, the mother of a 4-year-old boy, who was shot and wounded in an unrelated incident last Nov. 11 in the 14000 block of Terry Street in Detroit.

The boy shot himself in the hand with a handgun belonging to the great grandfather. Authorities alleged that both adults knew the unsecured gun was in the home and accessible to children. Both are charged with child abuse second degree and felony firearm.

In the fatal shooting of Mariah Davis earlier this month, authorities said the grandparents were babysitting Mariah, her brother and a neighbor’s child, at their home in the 19700 block of Oakfield when Mariah went into her grandparents' bedroom, retrieved a handgun from under a pillow, took it to another room and shot herself in neck.

Davis discovered the wounded child, retrieved the gun and phoned 911.

The couple is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in Detroit's 36th District Court.
