MSU Police are investigating a hacker's boast about grabbing and posting 1,500 email addresses, passwords, usernames and other information from a Michigan State University computer server, MLive reports.
MSU spokesperson Kent Cassella said one particular website was breached, a site belonging to the university's College of Arts and Letters. He said the hacker stole information limited to email addresses and encrypted passwords.
"MSU IT Services is working with the owners of the website, which has been taken down, to ensure the site is secure," Cassella said. "IT Services also is reaching out to those whose account information was copied."
Brandon Howell of MLive quotes a second campus spokesman as saying site users aren't all affiliated with MSU.
