What happens when you combine Coke and Mentos, a fire breathing dragon, and a bunch of hackers?

A festival called Maker Faire.

Taking place at The Henry Ford the last weekend in July,  Maker Faire is full of things you can make -- dragons, life-sized mousetraps, mobile apps, kids crafts, and more.

This year, Maker Faire has added a twist. Interested makers can participate in an on-site hackathon. Organizers will issue a challenge to teams of 1-4 people and give them access to The Henry Ford's digital collection. One day and many cups of coffee later, the teams turn in their products for judging. It's like Design On A Dime for computer coders.

For those that are more tinkerers or observers, Maker Faire will have plenty of demonstrations and nifty things to look at.

Deadline Detroit is a sponsor of Maker Faire.
