Max Garbarino
Hamtramck Police Chief Max Garbarino, 35, who was put on paid leave last week without explanation, resigned Wednesday. The city said there was an internal investigation, but would not disclose the nature of the probe.
Charles Sercombe of the Hamtramck Review reports that at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Hamtramck City Manager Katrina Powell announced the resignation.
Powell had launched the probe into the chief, but has refused to provide details, only saying an IT forensics expert is working on the case. Fox 2 reported that his computer was confisicated.
In a press release, Garbarino stated:
“I am proud of the service and leadership I provided to the City of Hamtramck and its residents. I believe I leave the Police Department in a better condition than when I became police chief. However, I believe the timing is right for me to now pursue other career opportunities.”
