Nevrus Nazarko, Hamtramck's finance director and acting city manager, has a plan that would have Hamtramck fire fighters working with the Detroit Fire Department in areas around the citys' shared borders, according to Fox 2..

One of the reasons for the idea is the money crisis in Hamtramck, which is like the one in Detroit city government, just smaller.

"We cannot continue to provide the same level of service with the financial resources that we have today," he said.

Detroit Fire Commissioner Donald Austin broached the concept when he discussed the DFD's shrinking budget with the Detroit City Council this spring. He would include Highland Park and Harper Woods, whose fire department also has been crippled by budget cuts.

So what do people in the neighborhoods affected have to say? Here's what people told  reporter Alexis Wiley on the Detroit side.

"I really [wouldn't] care if they came from Hamtramck or Detroit as long as they came."

"It doesn't really matter to me who [responds] to putting the fire out."
