Prepare for a surprise: A parking structure can be cool enough to be a destination, Kristin Bull suggests at Crain's Detroit Business.
A 10-story parking garage soon to open in Detroit's central business district will blend 1,300 parking spots with the work of 27 mural artists from across the globe.
Called The Z (because it zig-zags the corners of Broadway, East Grand River, Library and Gratiot), the garage is a collaboration between Bedrock Real Estate Services and Library Street Collective, a fine art gallery connected to the garage. The parking garage will open in December.
Street-level shops and restaurants opening next spring are intended to be another draw, writes Bull, who got a preview walk-through with other journalists Friday.
