Many see the Grand Prix as being a grand thing for Belle Isle.
Others hate the idea. They claim it is intrusion on the park and harms the atmosphere and the environment.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is holding a public forum Wednesday at 6 p.m. seeking feedback on whether Belle Isle should continue to host the Detroit Grand Prix. The hearing will be at the Belle Isle Nature Center.
The motor sports festival's five-year agreement with the DNR to host the event on Belle Isle is set to expire after its summer 2018 event, reports Annalise Frank of Crain's Detroit Business. The Detroit Grand Prix has taken place there semi-regularly since 1992.
"Public input is a critical step in evaluating the renewal of the agreement with the grand prix to use Belle Isle as an event venue," Ron Olson, DNR parks and recreation division chief, said in a news release.
People can also offer input by by emailing Scott Pratt, co-chief of DNR field operations at pratts@michigan.gov by Friday.
