Loco Moco
The popular Bucharest Grill that moved out of its spot at the Park Bar at Park and Elizabeth in downtown Detroit, will be replaced by a "Hawaiian local" restaurant called Go Go's, which is set to open April 8.
Jerry Belanger, owner of the Park Bar, tells Deadline Detroit that the new eating spot will serve what's referred to as "Hawaiian local." He explained it's foods the locals in Hawaii would eat, not necessarily the tourists.
The menu includes manapua, which is a steamed or baked bun with meat or vegetarian filling, says Chef Adam Verville. Another menu item is moco loco, which consists of rice with a burger, fried egg and and Chinese brown gravy.
Verville has worked at a Gold Cash Gold, St. Cece's Pub, 24 Grille and La Feria.
The food will be served as carryout and in the bar, downstairs and upstairs. It's inspired by a Stevie Ray Vaughn/Dick Dale song, "Pipeline," originally recorded by the Chantays, Belanger says. "It's surf culture, it's skateboard culture, it's snowboard culture."
