JV's long-anticipated return is finally here.
After plenty rehab and two rotations at Triiple A Toledo, Justin Verlander is slated to return Saturday against the Cleveland Indians at Comerica Park, Anthony Fenech writes in the Detroit Free Press,
The announcement of Verlander's return comes as the Tigers are starting to show some life again. They've now won three games in a row, and Anibal Sanchez, who was looking pretty pathetic on the mound, pitched a great game Tuesday night, almost completing 8 shutout innings.
"I'm looking for him to pitch well," manager Brad Ausmus says, according to the Freep.. "There's still a bit of a strengthening, building up process for him.
The Freep reports that Verlander threw 93 pitches over 5 2/3 innings against Columbus on Saturday. He allowed one run on four hits. He struck out nine.
"We can't go crazy with him but he went 93 pitches so he's got some room above that to go," Ausmus says.
Regardless, expectations among many fans are great.
Can he return to his glory days? We'll see.
