A key lesson learned from Flint is to be proactive.
Drinking water water has been shut off at the Detroit Public Schools Community District after initial results for 16 schools showed higher-than-acceptable levels for copper and/or lead at one or more water sources, Jennifer Chambers of The Detroit News reports.
"I immediately turned off the drinking water at those schools and provided water bottles until water coolers arrive," Superintendent Nikolai Vitti says in a statement.
Water at the 16 schools was shut off Tuesday. An additional 18 schools already had fountain shutofsf due to quality concerns, Vitti says.
