Now for some good news:
For one, The Detroit News reports that seasoned veteran Victor Martinez, who didn't have a great year last year, is healthy.
Secondly, Martinez is talks optimistically about this year's team, Chris McClosky reports from spring training in Lakeland, Fla.
“I think this has got to be the best team I’ve been on since I’ve been here in Detroit,” Martinez, who joined the Tigers before the start of the 2011 season, tells The News.
“Adding Justin Upton is definitely a good thing. Anytime you put a bat like that in your lineup it’s always great. But I think what helps us more is the job they did in the bullpen. It’s no secret [that’s where the team has struggled].
“I always say, we don’t win games on paper. We’ve got to go out and play the game. Nothing is given in this game; I think a lot of guys realize that now. But I think we are definitely looking pretty sharp.”
