Stephen Henderson of the Free Press considers the candidacy of Mike Duggan, essentially announced Wednesday, and writes:

It's a little annoying that we're already talking about the 2013 Detroit mayoral election.

Seriously? Can't we first get through the 500 national, state and local races on the ballot Nov. 6?

But there are already two candidates squawking about their intentions, so I guess it's unavoidable. This will be a year-long campaign.

Detroit Medical Center CEO Mike Duggan, who filed papers Wednesday to organize an election committee and start raising money, represents the most intriguing entrant to date.

But it's a complicated intrigue, and his road to the Manoogian could be described as both primrosed and thorny.
