A high-speed pursuit in Oakland County ended, as these things usually do, badly for the driver being chased by police. The 31-year-old man crashed into the Champps sports bar in West Bloomfield.
The Oakland Press: Southfield police were pursuing the suspect, accused of drunken driving. The chase began in Beverly Hills, down westbound on Twelve Mile near Telegraph Road in Southfield around 2:45 a.m. Thursday. Police say the vehicle ran a red light and went the wrong way on Telegraph Road before an officer caught up to the vehicle on Northwestern Highway. West Bloomfield police assisted after the crash.
West Bloomfield Police Lt. Tim Diamond said, “As they approached the intersection at Orchard Lake Road, the suspect, who was going probably 100 mph, jumped the median that separates northbound and southbound Orchard Lake Road, went airborne and ran over a tree before running into Champps.”
The driver was treated for non-critical injuries at Botsford Hospital.
