As the race appears to have tightened, the two presidential candidates are sending surrogates to campaign Wednesday in Michigan. Then on Friday, Hillary Clinton plans to visit  Detroit.

Donald Trump Jr., the oldest son, will campaign for dad on Wednesday at Michigan State University in East Lansing at 12:30 p.m., and Grand Valley State University in Allendale at 3:30 p.m., Chad Livengood and Jonathan Oosting report at The Detroit News. His day starts with a 10 a.m. greeting to staffers and volunteers at a Michigan Republican Party field office in downtown Detroit. 

Sen. Bernie Sanders will be stomping for Hillary Clinton  in Kalamazoo at Western Michigan University's Miller Auditorium at noon Wednesday, and then 3:15 p.m. at  The Village at Grand Traverse Commons in Traverse City.

Clinton returns Friday to Detroit at 5:15 p.m. get-out-the-vote rally at Eastern Market. Doors open at 3:15 p.m. at 2934 Russell St.. Backers interested in attending can register here for updates by email or text message. 

Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight website on Tuesday gives Clinton a 79.5 percent chance of carrying Michigan, down from 92.6 percent on Oct. 18. Overall, he gives Clinton a 71-percent chance of winning.
