Yes, the racetrack industry in Michigan clearly is changing quickly.

First, earlier this month, Hazel Park shut down after nearly 70 years, leaving Northville Downs as the only horse track in Michigan.
Now, comes news that Farmington Hills-based home builder Hunter Pasteur Homes is under contract to buy the Northville Downs horse racetrack near Sheldon Road and Hines Drive and redevelop the 48-acre property for housing, reports Kirk Pinho of Crain's Detroit Business, who notes that the project won't necessarily end horse racing in the area.
The plan is to build 500-600 apartments and for-sale townhouses and single-family homes, and some some businesses.
The track will remain open until the development begins. The track's owners hope to continue the racing and wagering operations "at an area in close proximity to its current location," Crain's reports.
