Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr says he plans to bid on a home on Chicago Blvd. in Detroit as part of the city's  new home auctioning program.

Speaking at a press conference for the unveiling of a report by the Detroit Blight Removal Task Force on Tuesday, Orr wanted to assure everyone that he had no inside information on auctioning.

He didn't indicate when he made the announcement whether he planned to make Detroit his permanent residence. He's currently living here on a temporary basis, but his family lives in suburban Maryland outside of D.C.

Mayor Mike Duggan stepped up to the podium afterward and said:

"If I were a Wayne County official I'd be a little nervous," he said.

Orr just laughed.

Actually, afterward, Orr explained that it was simply a good investment and that he wasn't planning to call Detroit home.

“There are no plans for me to move to the city,” Orr told reporters. “But I think it’s a great opportunity to participate in the auction. I think there’s a value proposition to be had. These are beautiful homes if you look at them. You can’t find construction like this anymore.”

Orr said he also had some interest in homes in the East English Village.
