When it comes to topping lists, this is one Michigan consumers can be very happy about.

Two groups that track gas prices -- GasBuddy.com and the American Automobile Association --  show that Michigan has the lowest gas prices in the country, Frank Witsil of the Detroit Free Press reports. On average, gas was selling Monday at $1.78 a gallon (GasBuddy.com) and $1.80 (AAA). Nationwide, the average price was $2.03 on Monday.

The Freep writes:

GasBuddy's senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan urged drivers seeking to save a few dollars to fuel up right away. By this morning, he predicted gas stations will have raised prices significantly, and Michigan probably won't be lowest in the nation anymore.

"It's a matter of time," he said. "We are certainly not Oklahoma, nor are we in the South where much of the crude oil infrastructure exists. So this is something that maybe happens every one or two years and the stars align and you see Michigan leading the nation."
