Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer Mitchell Quinn, who fatally shot a man on Monday while executing an arrest warrant, was once charged with pointing his department-issued handgun at this wife's head, The Detroit News reports.

The incident occurred seven years ago.

Quinn is under scrutiny following the shooting of fugitive Terrance Kellom, 20, who was wanted for armed robbery and a gun charge. Authorities say Kellom was shot multiple times after he charged at officers with a hammer. Kellom's father denies that his son had a hammer. Quinn is part of a federal fugitive task force that was executing an arrest warrant for Kellom.

The Detroit News reports that Quinn, 39, is a former Detroit cop who ran for Wayne County sheriff in 2004 and finished last out of eight candidates.

George Hunter and Robert Snell write that in 2008 Quinn was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon after pointing a gun at his wife, who was also a Detroit cop. They are no longer married.

Quinn was suspended and charges were dropped, the paper says.
