Two boys, aged 2 years and 5 months, were left in a hot, locked 2011 Ford Focus at MotorCity Casino late Monday morning, while their father, 25, was inside gambling, The Detroit News reports.
"They were removed from the vehicle by a citizen who forced entry into the car. When the scout [car] arrived, the children were already removed from the vehicle and awaiting police in a nearby office," Officer Shanelle Williams tells The News.
“An observant MotorCity Casino employee noticed the children alone inside the car in our covered parking structure and immediately reported it,” casino spokeswoman Jacci Woods says in a statement. “We then promptly contacted DPD and took steps to extricate the children from the car and ensure their safety. The children are fine and the matter is now being handled by law enforcement.”
The 25-year-old father was detained, the paper reports.
