
It looks like Mike Illitch has a little incentive to pay up some outstanding debt to the city of Detroit. .
Matt Helms and Joe Guillen reports that Illitch, owner of the Tigers and Red Wings, is "on the verge" of settling a long-standing debt owed by the family business empire.
The payment would remove a barrier to moving forward with a plan to build a new hockey arena.
The Freep reports that Illitch could owe up to $80 million in payments tied to cable TV revenues, but may end up just paying $6 million as part of a settlement. A.L.
