Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera has joined such Motor City icons as Eminem, Iggy Pop, Ndamukong Suh and John Varvatos (John Varvatos?) as a Chrysler pitchman.

A new YouTube video shows Cabrera working hard, lifting weights, taking batting practice and walloping a ball with shots of Chrysler's imported-from-Detroit automobile. There are also vintage photos of young Cabrera on the field and images of current Little League players in Grosse Pointe players, where scenes were taped Oct. 3 at Grosse Pointe North High.

As dramatic music rises, the narrator intones:

No matter where we come from, or when we begin, the road to greatness is the same for everyone. No rest stops. No fast lanes. And definitely no shortcuts. It's a road paved with hardship. And crafted by hard work. That is how true greatness is made. Whether you're working to become the game's greatest player. Or working to make the world's greatest cars. To us, that's the only road we're taking."

John Varvatos is a Detroit native and well-known fashion designer who helped sell Chryslers.
