A video of former Inkster police officer William Melendez senselessly beating motorist Floyd Dent in January 2015 went viral and Melendenz ended up sentenced to as much as 10 years in prison.

Next Tuesday, he'll be set free from the Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility in Ionia after 14 months behind bars, reports WDIV's Kevin Dietz.

Dent forgives Melendez. "I knew this day would come. I have forgiven him," he tells WDIV. "I think he has changed. I hope he will treat people better.'
