The two-year anniversary of Jane Bashara’s gruesome death is near, and her husband -- the accused killer -- was in court Thursday for a hearing. In a tender moment, he asked people not to forget Jane and called his wife “wonderful,” Elisha Anderson reports in the Free Press.

Bashara, 56, of Grosse Pointe Park is charged with first-degree murder in Jane's death but has maintained his innocence, Anderson writes, despite an admission from his former handyman, Joseph Gentz, who said he killed Jane Bashara at her husband’s direction and later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Dressed in the grimy  jail clothes and long underwear, Bashara thanked the judge for recognizing the two-year anniversary of his wife’s passing before he was escorted out of the courtroom. He acted sincere, and appeared to be close to tears.

"I want to thank you very much for recognizing the second anniversary of my wife's passing," Bashara told Judge Vonda Evans.

"And I just want to say that, uh, please everyone,  don't forget her. She was a wonderful gal."
