The second auction was better for Carl Hollier than it was for the city of Detroit.
You might recall that the city, as part of its home auction program, put up an abandoned home at 115 Chicago Blvd. in Detroit's Boston-Edison neighborhood on May 30, and the winning bid was $135,000. It was the first time that bidding for a home had crossed the $100,000 mark.
But city decided to do it all over again because the website crashed during the bidding. At that time, Carl Hollier, a DJ, was the winner.
On Friday, the house went up for bid again. This time Hollier won the bidding at $97,900, according to Marion Walker of the Detroit Free Press. A savings of $37,100.
“We’re focused on making it not an eyesore,” he told the Freep.“On the outside, we’re going to have it painted, there’s roof and gutter repairs.
