Update: Monday, 6:26 p.m. -- WBND reports that an inmate took a gun off a deputy and started opening fire.
U.S. Sen. Gary Peters issued a statement:
“I’m deeply saddened by the tragic shootings at the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph. I join my fellow Michiganders in grieving for all those affected by this senseless tragedy, including the two public servants who lost their lives. We are still awaiting more details of what happened during this heartbreaking event, and I will continue to monitor the situation as more information becomes available.”

Report From the Afternoon
An inmate who was in custody shot and killed two court bailiffs Monday afternoon before being shot dead at the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph near Benton Harbor in the western edge of the state, TV-station WZZM reports. At least one person was injured.
Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey in a news conference said those injured were taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph for treatment.
"Brave officers" took down the inmate who was shooting, WZZM reports.
Michigan State Police had confirmed the shooting around 2:30 p.m.
