Perhaps there's some good explanation. But so far, it just looks as if the school district was insensitive.
Fox 2's Alexis Wiley reports that the Davidson Middle School in Southgate omitted a yearbook photo of Tyler Nichols, 13, who committed suicide in March.
"It's almost like they want to forget he existed, and that makes me sad," says mother Ann Nichols, who added that a yearbook teacher had mentioned doing a tribute in the yearbook for her son.
"He was just such a good kid, and up until actually that morning, every day, multiple times a day, he would come up to me and hug me and tell me how much he loved me," Nichols told Fox2. "I don't want anyone to do what Tyler did ever, but I think totally suppressing them thinking about Tyler or remembering him is not good, either."
Wiley reported that the district superintendent claims the yearbook was sent off to be printed in early March before Tyler passed away, and they didn't have a photo. But his mother says he took a picture that year, which was on his new student ID.
Tyler was memorialized two days after his death by schoolmate Jake Lobb, 14, in this video, which has been seen more than 14,000 times on YouTube:
