The Cush is clear of unduly using his position in a controversial traffic stop.
At least that's what the city's Inspector General found.
Christine Ferretti of the Detroit News reports that the Detroit Inspector General James Heath determined there was "insufficient evidence" to suggest that Council President Pro Tem George Cushingberry used his undue influence during a traffic stop early this year involving alcohol and marijuana.
Police had claimed Cushingberry twice eluded officers before they stopped him and found a cup of liquor and a half-smoked marijuana cigarette in his car.
Some complained that the got off light. He was given a ticket for failure to signal, but was not given a field sobriety test.
The report, according to the News, stated:
"All of the parties described the scene of the stop as tension-filled. Councilman Cushingberry believed that he had been wrongfully detained, and the officers were frustrated by what they believed was his refusal to cooperate fully.”
