Michigan voters fill three key seats next year: governor, U.S. Senate and Wayne County executive.

Mike Duggan, a politically ambitious man without a race, could be a legit candidate for any one. The Court of Appeals put this week the final period on his mayoral bid, saying he wasn't eligible to be on the ballot.

Now there's a lot of speculation about him trying to bump out incumbent Rick Snyder.

Paul Egan of the Detroit Free Press reports Melvin (Butch) Hollowell, legal adviser to Duggan’s mayoral campaign and is general counsel to the Detroit Branch NAACP, said “my cell phone has been lighting up with texts” suggesting Duggan should run for governor.

“I think he would be a terrific governor,” but “I can’t imagine that he is (considering it) right now.”

At WWJ's site, commentator Tim Skubick suggests some are already pushing him to run for governor.

“Duggan got a phone call last night from a prominent Democrat, a name that you would recognize, who will have a conversation as early as today with Mr. Duggan about considering running for governor.”
