Downtown Detroit not so long ago was hardly a place people were eager to move to .
Now, it's a coveted destination and there's a shortage of rental units and the prices just keep going up.
Ian Thibodeau of The Detroit News reports that apartment rents in downtown Detroit have jumped by 7 percent since last fall and overall have gone up by 11 percent since 2013, according to a study by Broder & Sachse Real Estate Services.
The average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment in downtown Detroit is now $1,359, but there are certainly one that go for much more. The rental study defined downtown Detroit as an area bounded by I-75 to the north, the Detroit River to the south, St. Aubin to the east and Rosa Parks Boulevard to the west.
