It was just a matter of time.
The Tigers, who seemed Superman-like the first six games of the season, lost their first game Monday, going down in defeat against the Pittsburgh Pirates by 5-4.
Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes:
The first and last pitches Detroit Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez threw left the ballpark. The first one gave the Pirates an early lead, the final one extended it after the Tigers made some offensive progress.
Three home runs helped the Pirates hand the Tigers their first defeat this season, 5-4, at PNC Park today during the team’s home opener. In addition to watching Josh Harrison, Pedro Alvarez and Corey Hart homer, the crowd of 39,933, the largest ever for a regular-season game at PNC Park, watched a masterful performance from Gerrit Cole.
