A filing by the Livingston County Prosecutor's Office accuses the Inkster state representative of a third violation of his bond terms. Which could mean jail time.
Jones, D-Inkster, tested positive for alcohol three times on Sept. 3, according to an emergency motion filed by the prosecutor's office.
Prosecutors also allege Jones attempted to tamper with his tether Monday.
Jones had other violations in June and July, leading a Livingston County judge to warn him, "If you violate any other orders, you will be looking at jail."
The third-term Democrat has had a rough year. In April, he was arrested for drunk driving on I-96, after crashing his SUV on the freeway near Fowlerville. In July, he drew scrutiny for campaign-finance reports that showed a $221 charge at a Dearborn topless bar. And earlier this month, he offered -- via social media -- support for individuals seeking official exemption from Covid vaccine requirements.
Jones' troubles led Zach Gorchow, editor and publisher at Lansing's Gongwer News Service, to call them "this ongoing mess" that undermines his credibility as a state legislator.
