You'd think the Tigers have enough slugging power in the lineup that the team could make do without suspended shortstop Jhonny Peralta.

But let's face it, some nights the bats go silent. And Peralta was having such a great year before he was suspended. In other words, the Tigers could use him.

Peralta is eligible to play the last few games of the season and post-season, where the Tigers could use him somewhere in the lineup and somewhere on the field.

The Detroit News reports that the Tigers haven't yet made up their mind whether they'll activate him for the remainder of the season.

But Tom Gage of the News reports that the Tigers will have Peralta begin attending pregame workouts, starting today.

Gage writes:

Peralta will be eligible to work out every day wherever the Tigers are until the gates of the stadium open. Before his first workout, however, he’ll address the team, then the media.

“He’s not eligible to be activated until the last weekend of the season,” Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski said. “But starting tomorrow, he’ll take some ground balls, some fly balls, and do some hitting But no decision has been made beyond that whether he’ll be activated.  -- Allan Lengel
