Universities love winning football teams, and some are willing and able to pay big for coaching talent.

University of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh's $9-million salary this year makes him the highest-paid football coach in the 2016 USA Today Sports survey of publicly available contracts.

Trailing behind in second is Nick Saban at Alabama with $6.9 million and Urban Meyer at Ohio State with $6.1 million. Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio ranks #14 on the national list with a salary of  $4.3 million.

On top of all that, Harbaugh  can earn up to $1.325 million this year in bonuses.

To date, Michigan is 7-0 and MSU is 2-5.
