Stroh Brewery Co. releases Spirit Witbier, a summer brew with a label inspired by the Joe Louis fist in Hart Plaza.

The brew includes coriander (aka cilantro or Chinese parsley) and sweet and bitter orange peel, which makes for a pale, hazy wheat beer, a release says.

It’s the third new recipe for Stroh’s since the brand returned to Detroit in 2016. The seasonal offering is only available in Michigan through September.

“Spirit Wit continues our tradition of celebrating the special people, places and pride of Detroit in each of our locally-brewed beers,” Andy Gurjian, Stroh’s brand manager, is quoted as saying. “The beer’s label is inspired by The Fist monument to boxing legend Joe Louis in Detroit’s Hart Plaza, while the beer’s name reflects our dedication to highlighting the spirit of this great city we’re honored to call home.”

Stroh's is shipping the beer to stores and also will have a promotional tie-in at the weekly Slow Roll bike ride Aug. 6 at 7 p.m., which begins at 1901 Grand River in Detroit. Drafts will be served at an after-party in Brew Detroit, 1401 Abbott St.

People attending the event will receive a raffle ticket for a drawing for a A-Type bike from Detroit Bikes with custom “Spirit Wit” paint work by Zak Warmann of Detroit Sign Painters.
