Saying there was not enough evidence to send the case to trial, a Flint judge on Monday dismissed all sexual assault charges against former NBA and Michigan State University basketball player Mateen Cleaves.
Genesee District Court Judge Cathy Dowd said she was unconvinced by the evidence presented by the prosecutor during the preliminary examination, Oona Goodin-Smith of MLive reports.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, which had been prosecuting the case because of a potential conflict of interest, issued a statement Monday afternoon saying it intends to appeal the decision.
Cleaves played for MSU, the Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings.
