There's no need for an April 18 settlement conference that had been scheduled in a lawsuit against the Detroit Instutute of Arts over its admission fees for special exhibitions. Christina Hall tells why in the Free Press:

A Macomb County Circuit Court judge dismissed a lawsuit against the Detroit Institute of Arts, which was being sued by five Macomb County residents who said it breached its contract with voters when it denied them free admission to the recent Faberge special exhibition.

Judge John C. Foster issued an opinion and order Wednesday granting the DIA’s request for summary disposition and dismissing the residents’ case. His opinion and order also denied a request by the residents to amend their pleadings.

The case is closed, according to the opinion and order.

The case was brought in December by Tea Party supporters who opposed a millage for the DIA that voters in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties passed last August. The DIA promised free admission for tri-county residents, excluding special exhibits -- an exception the lawsuit challenged.
