Judge Brenda K. Sanders
Detroit has had its share of problematic judges over the years including Wayne County Circuit Judge Wade "No Shame in My Game" McCree, who was removed from the bench for gross misconduct.
Now comes the latest:
The Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission is seeking to suspend Detroit 36th District Court Judge Brenda Sanders, citing “psychotic delusions” and alleged judicial misconduct, Oralandar Brand-Williams reports in The Detroit News.
The commission has asked the Michigan Supreme Court to immediately remove Sanders from the bench without pay pending disciplinary hearings, the News reports.
There may not be an immediate need for the Supreme Court to act. Sanders has been off the bench since October, first on medical leave and then on administrative leave, The News notes. She's scheduled to return to the bench in January.
According to the commission’s complaint, Sanders sent a letter to U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade in December 2013 requesting a federal investigation saying she (Sanders) was the target of corruption in an attempt to eliminate her from the 36th District Court bench before she was sworn in as a judge in December 2008.
Sanders also wrote two judges have “suddenly died under suspicious circumstances” in the past two years and that “judges have been murdered because they spoke out against some of the wrongs that were being committed ‘in this court.’ ”
