The Tigers are looking for something to put the zip back in the team's game.

Could Justin Verlander be that spark plug?

Well, not so fast.

Jeff Seidel of the Detroit Free Press reports that while  erlander didn't feel pain or discomfort during an outing Sunday pitching for the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens, he didn't shine too bright.

Seidel writes:

Verlander struggled with his mechanics and his control, throwing 79 pitches in less than three innings of work against the Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field. At times, he walked behind the mound, rubbing the baseball, trying to summon something special. But it wouldn't come.

In other words, it's not clear when he'll be back, and the Tigers don't want him to return until he can contribute in a  good way.

In all, he gave up gave up three runs on 79 pitches in 2 2/3 innings.
