Gov. Rick Snyder was elected as the "nerd," a guy who wasn't a politician.

Now, with the same-sex marriage issues, he's being nothing but a politician, and not in the good way.

Nancy Kafter of the Free Press lays into Snyder in a column that begins:

Rick Snyder still doesn’t get it.

When the governor finally expressed an opinion about the 300 weddings performed after a U.S. District Court judge struck down Michigan’s same-sex marriage ban, he walked a safe, and maddening, legal line: “With respect to the marriages, we believe those are legal and valid marriages. ... Because of the stay, we won’t recognize the benefits of the marriage until there’s a removal of the stay.”

Snyder’s answer is legally accurate, but it’s totally devoid of anything resembling an opinion. Even when asked whether the ban hurts the state’s ability to attract educated young professionals, what did the governor say in response? He talked about jobs and the economy, of course.

She says he has to step up as governor,  show leadership and speak up on "significant issues of morality and justice."
