Rapper Kanye West has big plans to promote his new album, "Yeezus," due for release on Tuesday -- and they involve several downtown Detroit locations.
The self-proclaimed successor to Steve Jobs will project videos onto five downtown locations (listed below, with times) beginning tonight and going through early Saturday.
It's all a part of West's unusual marketing strategy for his new album. He has released no singles or official music videos ahead of the album, instead opting only to perform the rock-inspired "Black Skinhead" on this season's "Saturday Night Live" finale and projecting a black-and-white video of his new song, "New Slaves," onto seemingly random buildings in cities throughout the world for the past several weekends.
This will be the first time West's crew has projected videos onto Detroit buildings, although it is unclear if he will show the "New Slaves" video yet again.
West was rumored to have shot an "American Psycho"-inspired music video with reality TV star Scott Disick playing the role of Christian Bale's Patrick Bateman. It is rumored West could choose to project his new video, supposedly modeled off of the movie's iconic "Hip to Be Square" murder scene, at this weekend's new locations.
At a listening party last week, the Chicago-based rapper said there would be over 500 new projection locations over the weekend.
West, despite his high profile, is secretive and no stranger to controversy (after all, he calls himself a god in a new song), so stay tuned to see what he has in store for Motown tonight.
