Peter Karmanos Jr.
The Michigan Court of Appeals has sided with Pete Karmanos Jr. in his protracted legal battle with the company he co-founded.
The Michigan Court of Appeals upheld a $16.5-million jury award to Karmanos against Compuware, Ian Thibodeau of The Detroit News reports. Karmanos retired as executive chairman in 2013 and then worked under a consulting deal. He was fired as a consultant after saying publicly "the current management of Compuware needs to get their head out of their ass."
Karmanos sued for wrongful termination and after the company took away his stock options.
The latest decision upholds a 2015 ruling by Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Daniel Ryan, who said Compuware had no basis to second-guess, modify or vacate arbitrator Gene Esshaki’s decision in February to award the money,.
Karmanos has since started a tech company based in Birmingham called MadDog Technology.
He is a minority investor in Deadline Detroit.
