Actor Diarra Kilpatrick, Kwame Kilpatrick's half-sister, who hails from Detroit, plays the lead character in the provocative comedy series on ABC Digital, "American Koko," the Detroit Free Press reports.
Kilpatrick, the series creator, plays the character, Akosua, who is part of the Everyone's A Little Racist Agency, an elite team of problem solvers who help people navigate tricky racial situations.
Julie Hind of the Freep reports:
Kilpatrick also experienced the ups and downs of local fame through her family. She is the half-sister of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who's serving a 28-year prison sentence for his racketeering conviction. Have his public and personal trials had an impact on her as an artist? "I love my brother and of course what the family has been through has been important to my resiliency as a person," she says.
Kilpatrick's Facebook page lists Los Angeles as her home.
Kwame Kilpatrick is currently serving a 28-year public corruption sentence in a federal prison in Oklahoma.
Last Oct. 23, she posted on her Facebook page a petition asking President Barack Obama to grant Kwame Kilpatrick clemency.
