
Critics of ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick think his monthly restitution payments are way too low. And they don't think it's so great that he's getting a free federal defender in his pending criminal case.
So take heart critics. The Detroit Free Press reports that Kilpatrick will have to pay for an attorney if he wants to defend himself against in a civil suit filed by the Securities Exchange Commission, which alleges that he and ex-Treasurer Jeffrey Beasley took lavish gifts in exchange for favoritism in city's pension fund. -- A.L.
